Fedora Linux は Red Hat 社が支援するコミュニティ Fedora Project で開発されているディストリビューションで、最新の技術を積極的に取り込むことで知られています。また Fedora Linux の開発成果が、後にリリースされる Red Hat Enterprise Linux, RHEL に取り込まれています。Fedora Linux は、おおむね春と秋の年二回の頻度で新しい版がリリースされています。

Fedora Project は、5 月 6 日（現地時間）に Fedora Linux 36 をリリースしました。

Fedora Linux 36 のデスクトップ

Fedora Linux 36 のリリースでは、デスクトップ環境に GNOME 42 が採用されましたが、その他にも新しく変わったところはいくつもあります。以下がそのうちの一部です。

各言語のフォントを可能な限り Noto フォントに切り替えて、テキストレンダリングの一貫性を確保
システムの openJDK パッケージを Java 11 から Java 17 へ更新
次期バージョン Golang 1.18 導入
自動アップグレードの際、推奨パッケージでも（インストールされていなければ）除外
GNU Toolchain を gcc 12 と glibc 2.35 に更新

Fedora Linux 36 Accepted System-Wide Changes

Autoconf-2.71: Autoconf upgrade from version 2.69 to the last upstream version 2.71 in Fedora.
Default To Noto Fonts: 各言語のデフォルトのフォントを可能な限り Noto Fonts に変更し、テキストレンダリングの一貫性を持たせるようにしました。
Install only newly recommended packages on upgrades with dnf/PackageKit/microdnf: dnf / PackageKit / microdnf のデフォルトの挙動を変更して、アップグレード時に新しく推奨されたパッケージのみをインストールするようになります。; 推奨パッケージがインストールされていないとき、将来の推奨パッケージのアップグレードで自動的にインストールされることはなくなりました。
MinGW debug symbols location change: Store debug files of mingw PE binaries below /usr/lib/debug.
Switch GnuTLS to allowlisting: 現在、crypto-policies は選択したアルゴリズムを強制的に無効にする方法で GnuTLS を制御しますが、GnuTLS を使用するアプリケーションに当該アルゴリズムを再び有効にするオプションがありません。より将来性のある、許可リストベースの構成方法に切り替え、特定のプロセスのシステムデフォルトの制限を緩和するために GnuTLS 内で API を提供することを提案しています。
GNU Toolchain Update (gcc 12, glibc 2.35): Update the Fedora 36 GNU Toolchain to gcc 12 and glibc 2.35.
Golang 1.18: Rebase of Golang package to upcoming version 1.18 in Fedora 36, including the rebuild of all dependent packages(the pre-release version of Go will be used for the rebuild if released version will not be available at the time of the mass rebuild).
Hunspell Dictionary dir change: Update Hunspell Dictionary system directory from /usr/share/myspell/ to /usr/share/hunspell/
java-17-openjdk as system JDK in F36: Update the system JDK in Fedora from java-11-openjdk to java-17-openjdk.
libffi 3.4: Update libffi in Fedora 36 from libffi 3.1 to libffi 3.4 (released June 28 2021), and provide a libffi3.1 compatibility package to handle the library SONAME transition.
LLVM 14: Update all llvm sub-projects in Fedora Linux to version 14.
Enforce Authselect Configuration Consistency: この変更は、認証および ID ソースの設定に authselect を必須とし、 authselect 以外の設定を sssd authselect プロファイルに強制的に更新して、既存の authselect 以外の設定を排除することを目的としています。

ostree native containers (Preview) / CoreOS layering: (rpm-)ostree スタックを拡張し、OS コンテンツのトランスポートおよび配信メカニズムとして OCI/Docker コンテナをネイティブにサポートします。
Package information on ELF objects: すべてのバイナリ（実行ファイルと共有ライブラリ）には、そのファイルがビルドされた rpm を特定する ELF ノートが付加されます。これにより、バイナリが rpm メタデータなしで配布された場合でも、バイナリを識別することができるようになります。systemd-coredump は、クラッシュを報告する際のパッケージのバージョン記録に使用します。
New 128-bit IEEE long double ABI for IBM 64-bit POWER LE: Transition IBM 64-bit POWER LE systems to the new 128-bit IEEE long double ABI.
Relocate RPM database to /usr: 現在、RPM データベースは /var に配置されています。これを /usr に移動します。この移動は、rpm-ostree ベースのインストールや、(open)SUSE では既に進行中です。

%set_build_flags for %build, %check, and %install phases: Fedora Linux の RPM ビルドにおける %build, %check および %install フェーズで %set_build_flags マクロを自動的に呼び出します。これにより、すべての RPM ビルドでコンパイラーフラグ環境変数が設定されることが保証されるようになります。
Wayland By Default with NVIDIA proprietary Driver: NVIDIA のプロプリエタリなドライバでも、GDM で Wayland セッションをデフォルトで有効にするようになりました。

Fedora Linux 36 Accepted Self-Contained Changes

Ansible 5: ansible プロジェクトは、ansible のリリースと配布の方法を再編成しました。この変更により、Fedora はこれらの変更と同期するようになり、古い 'ansible classic/2.9.x' パッケージを廃止し、ansible-core (エンジン) を取り込み、上流の ansible リリースにあるすべてのコレクションを含む 'ansible' パッケージを採用することにしました。
Authselect: Require explicit opt-out: authselect によって生成された設定に対するユーザーの変更は、それ以降に authselect を呼び出すと上書きされます。authselect を使って nsswitch と PAM の設定を管理したくないユーザは、 authselect opt-out を呼び出すか /etc/authselect/authselect.conf を削除することでオプトアウトできます。また、CoreOS や他の rpm-ostree システムでも authselect が動作するようになります。
New requirements for akmods binary kernel modules for Silverblue / Kinoite support: Silverblue/Kinoite における akmods ベースのバイナリカーネルモジュールの現在のサポートを改善するために、akmods にカーネルパッケージのバージョンをその -devel サブパッケージと強くリンクするメタパッケージへの新しい依存関係を導入します。
Cockpit File Sharing: SambaやNFSによるファイル共有を簡単にするための cockpit モジュールです。

GHC X.Y compiler parallel version installs: Introduce ghcX.Y packages to Fedora which can be parallel installed, in addition to the main ghc package.
IBus Table Cangjie default for Hong Kong: Make ibus-table-chinese-cangjie the default input method for zh_HK (Hong Kong) locale.
Keylime subpackaging and agent alternatives: The keylime package will be split into subpackages per role (agent, registrar, verifier, and admin components), while allowing the alternative agent implementation in Rust.
LXQt 1.0.0: Update LXQt to 1.0.0 in Fedora.
Malayalam Default Fonts Update: This change will update existing default Malayalam fonts and also rename to new upstream source, which brings improved text shaping, better glyphs for readability, Unicode 13 support, Appstream data amongst other improvements.
No ifcfg by default: レガシーネットワーク設定ファイルに対する NetworkManager のサポートは、新規インストールには含まれません。
PHP 8.1: Update the PHP stack in Fedora to latest version 8.1.x
Plocate as the default locate implementation: 古くからある mlocate プログラムは、互換性のある再実装である plocate に置き換えられ、より速く、ディスクスペースの消費が少なくなりました。
Podman 4.0: Podman 4.0 will be released in Fedora 36 for the first time.
PostgreSQL 14: Update of PostgreSQL (postgresql and libpq components) in Fedora from version 13 to version 14 in the non-modular (main) builds.
Remove .la files from buildroot: Autools/libtool ベースのプロジェクトでは、make install で .la で終わるファイルを頻繁にインストールします。これらのファイルは通常、不要なものです。そのため、多くのプロジェクトにおける %install セクションで、find $RPM_BUILD_ROOT -name "*.la" -delete を実行して .la ファイルを削除しています。
Remove nscd: Fedora 35 で提案されたもので、名前付きサービスの nscd キャッシュを削除することを意図しています。nscd はすでに Fedora 34 で非推奨となりました。現在提供している機能は、DNS のキャッシュに systemd-resolved を使い、それ以外には sssd デーモンを使うことで実現可能になります。
Remove Wire Extensions Support: レガシーワイヤレスエクステンションインターフェースは 2007 年に新しい mac80211/cfg80211 インターフェースに置き換わりました。レガシーワイヤレス拡張のサポートは長い間非推奨で、WEP のような長い EOL WiFi 暗号しかサポートしておらず、無効にして削除する時期になりました。
Retired Packages: Ease the task of removing packages, which were retired and no longer receives updates.
Ruby on Rails 7.0: Ruby on Rails 7.0 is the latest version of well known web framework written in Ruby.
Rubygem Cucumber 7.1.0: Rubygem-cucumber 7.1.0 is the latest version of the popular integration BDD testing framework for Ruby.
Setuptools 58+: Update to a new upstream release of python-setuptools that is not completely compatible with previous releases. Since version 58+ upstream removed support for 2to3 during builds. This is a breaking change and projects are encouraged to port to a unified codebase.
Stratis 3.0.0: Stratis 3.0.0 includes many internal improvements, bug fixes, and user-visible changes.
Unit Names in Systemd Messages: The default format of messages printed by systemd to the console and the journal is changed from "Starting Frobnicating Daemon..." / "Started Frobnicating Daemon" to "Starting frobnicator.service — Frobnicating Daemon..." / "Started frobnicator.service — Frobnicating Daemon".
Users are administrators by default in the installer GUI: Anaconda インストーラ GUI はデフォルトでユーザーアカウント設定画面で、管理者権限チェックボックスがチェックされているようになりました。
Silverblue and Kinoite will have /var on its own Btrfs subvolume: SilverblueとKinoite をクリーンインストールでは、/var にマウントされる "var" サブボリュームを作成します。
